Eintopf—a multicultural site-specific festival (August/September 2025 1st edition with German artists, August/September 2026 2nd edition with Ukrainian artists). At the historical moment in which we are, when nationalist and separatist movements are growing, black-and-white narratives, divisions, populism, authoritarianism, violence, aggression and war are strengthening, walls are being built on borders, we want to refer to what we believe is most important and what unites us, not divides us: closeness, relationship, community. We want to create an artistic Polish-German-Ukrainian meeting in a city that has been marked by a difficult history of wars and partitions. A horizontal perspective is important to us, in which the voices of those who are on the peripheries, margins, edges will be heard.
Eintopf is a multicultural community festival, a horizontal and democratic space, realizing encounters with places and local histories, open to what is invisible, erased, marginalized, on the outskirts of the mainstream.
Eintopf is a space for exchange and meetings with the city itself, as well as with Ukrainian artists and a German feminist group that has been working with sitespecific art for over thirty years. The festival will be attended by two feminist art collectives: Frakcja and Endmoräne, which will invite Ukrainian artists to participate. Both collectives are focused on site specific urban activities. Eintopf is a one-pot dish, a meal prepared in one vessel. The name of the festival (a word of German origin used in the Lodz dialect) refers to the multiculturalism of Łódź, which has long ceased to be a city of only four cultures(German, Polish, Jewish, Russian). Currently an increasingly large Ukrainian minority lives here. We want to draw attention to both the historical aspect of multiculturalism and its contemporary face. Our goal is to connect, not divide, to allow different perspectives and stories growing out of the fabric of the city to resonate. Our festival primarily wants to create new artistic narratives, also referring to the textile history of the city.
The first edition of the festival will take place at the turn of August/September 2025, together with invited German artists. The second edition of the festival will take place at the turn of August/September 2026 with invited Ukrainian artists.
